With the popularity of smoothies, protein shakes, and healthier travel routines, this is an easy way to add a little extra convenience.

Basic Cleaning Supplies

Unlike a hotel, guests staying in a vacation rental often want to feel at home and have the ability to take care of small messes themselves. Providing a broom, mop, vacuum, and basic cleaning supplies helps guests look after the property during their stay and will also make things easier for your cleaners between bookings.

Iron and Ironing Board

Most guests probably will not use an iron during their stay.

But the one time someone needs one — attending a wedding, business event, or special occasion — they will be very grateful that it is available.

Not every amenity is worth the extra cost, maintenance, or risk. Here are a few items we have chosen not to include in our vacation rentals.

National Park Passes

Although this may seem like a helpful perk for guests visiting Canmore and Banff National Park, we have found that it creates more problems than benefits. Passes are easily forgotten, misplaced, or accidentally taken home by guests, creating ongoing replacement issues. Instead, we encourage guests to support our National Parks and provide clear information on where they can purchase their own pass.

Garage Door Openers

Garage remotes seem simple, but they are one of those items that frequently disappear. Guests sometimes accidentally take them home in rental cars, and replacement costs can add up quickly.

Streaming Services

Most guests already have their own subscriptions for platforms like Netflix, Disney+, or other streaming services. We have found that guests generally prefer using their own accounts rather than using a host-provided login. It also avoids the challenge of managing shared accounts or privacy concerns.

At the end of the day, successful short-term rentals are not just about having the biggest list of amenities — they are about providing thoughtful details that improve the guest experience.
